At Handforth Physiotherapy and Rehab, we offer small-group and 1:1, mat-based Pilates from our clinic on Wilmslow Road, Handforth.

Our Pilates classes are designed to help you move better, feel stronger and exercise with more confidence. As the sessions are designed and led by qualified physiotherapists, exercises can be adapted around pain, stiffness, injury, surgery or reduced confidence.

Whether you are new to Pilates, returning after injury, managing back pain, or looking for a safe way to improve strength and mobility, we’ll help you progress at the right pace

How Sessions Are Delivered

Physio-led Pilates is available as:

  • 1:1 Pilates sessions for individual assessment, tailored exercises and close guidance
  • Small group Pilates classes, usually with 3–4 people, allowing individual feedback and exercise modifications
Both options are led by a physiotherapist, so your exercises can be adapted and progressed safely.

Class Levels

Our Pilates classes are structured around Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels. Your physiotherapist will help guide you to the most suitable option.

  • Beginner Pilates
Ideal if you are new to Pilates, returning after injury, managing pain or feeling unsure about joining a class.
  • Intermediate Pilates
Suitable if you have some Pilates experience or a reasonable baseline of strength and movement control.
  • Advanced Pilates
Designed for people with good strength, body awareness and movement control who want more challenge.

What to Expect

Sessions are mat-based and focus on controlled, high-quality movement rather than simply pushing harder. Exercises can be changed during the session if something feels uncomfortable or if you need more or less challenge.

Sessions may include:

  • Core strength and stability exercises<.li>
  • Mobility and flexibility work
  • Postural awareness
  • Breathing and movement control
  • Balance, coordination and strength exercises
  • Adaptations for pain, stiffness, injury or reduced confidence
If you are unsure whether a class or 1:1 session is best for you, contact the clinic and we’ll help guide you to the right option.
